To paraphrase the words of the famous U2 song “Still haven’t found what I’m looking for,” I would like to write that a human in this world will never find what he is looking for.
Ok, maybe there were exceptions in the characters of Jesus Christ, Muhammad, or Buddha, but these are rarities. Man will never achieve full happiness. He will always worry about his loved ones, health, and broadly defined future. Something like complete happiness or a state in which all elements of the puzzle will be in place will not occur. Even if euphoria appears in one’s life, it will last relatively short. Alcohol or drugs is an illusion that allows people to endure the hardships of life. People have practiced it for centuries, not by accident.
Nevertheless, the fact is that using drugs and drinking alcohol brings only an ostensible, short state of full happiness.
Is my thinking pessimistic? I doubt it. I would say it is optimistic-realist. It’s much more comfortable to focus on what is here and now. Also, above all, we should care for all our loved ones. Instead of continually living tomorrow, dreaming of eternal happiness, we should focus on today. Let’s appreciate the gray reality that surrounds us.
“The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls,” as Simon & Garfunkel sang in his famous song “Sound of silence.” We will never find what we’re looking for if we continually will be looking for it outside of our minds, souls, and hearts. The real happiness is already inside our psyche. True happiness is also in the hearts of our beloved ones. Do not miss this fact. That’s why you should not focus on unimportant issues in your life. Take care of yourself and your beloved ones. It will be probably the best way to find what you are looking for (even though we all will never find a feeling of eternal peace and happiness.)
