Did I drink the 47% alcohol drink?
Many years ago, I drank even stronger ones. Nonetheless, this text won’t be about drinking alcohol. In general, I avoid drinking alcohol. Today (I wrote this text on the 16th of May, 2026), I realized that I carry on my back and shoulders 47% of my total body mass. I am 180 cm (5.9 feet) tall; I weigh 87 kg (192 lbs), and I am able to take 13k steps with a burden of 40.5 kg (89 lbs) on my back and shoulders. Believe me, my Dear Friend, that’s a lot. Do not try this at home. If you want to start a journey with rucking, start by adding two standard bottles of water to your rucksack.
Observe how your body reacts. If nothing unusual happens, you can increase the weight of your backpack. Or, if you have muscle soreness, you can repeat with the same weight. You need to hear what your body communicates to you.
That’s why, in May 2026, I increased the weight of my rucksack from 37.5 kg to 40.5 kg almost one year after the earlier increase (it happened in June 2025).
I needed time to take another step further. Still, I know my body was ready for it. I remember that I was thinking about the increase between 2025 and 2026. I didn’t decide to do it, mainly because of my right calf injury that happened in the middle of January 2026. I had to postpone it. Today, I am lucky that I am able to carry 47% of my body mass on my back and shoulders. I have no doubt that there is no better thing I can do for myself. We are born to carry heavy weights. The more I do rucking, the more I sense it. I wonder when I will increase the weight of my rucksack next time. I believe it will happen.
