Today (I wrote this text on the 11th of May, 2023), I will explain why books are like people to me.
Books appear in my life and disappear like people. I have already forgotten and do not remember some books I read and knew. The same is true with people. There were many humans I had the pleasure to know, but throughout the years, I did not think about them and forgot about them. Other books were more or less episodes that made marks on my psyche. Again, a similar issue is with people. While walking, I pass hundreds of extras. Throughout my life, I passed through thousands of anonymous passers-by. I will never see these people.
In the same way, I will never know the hundreds or even thousands of books I saw in libraries or bookstores.
Some humans and books I have seemingly known for many years. Nevertheless, as I reach for them each time, I repeatedly rediscover them. There is always something to discover, not only in oneself but also in others. Even if you think you know someone properly, my Dear Friend, I am convinced you do not know this person at all. We all are like the top of the icebergs floating in the sea of life. We see only 10% of the souls and minds of others. The majority is hidden from the eyes of other people.
Undoubtedly, a book re-read can give our souls new feelings, insights, wisdom, and dimensions.
Could I give you some examples, my Dear Friend? I sometimes think of re-reading Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s novels. I do not have time for it. Still, I am convinced I will learn new things while re-reading these masterpieces. Lastly, I would say that each human, like each book, has its own story to tell. Remember, my Dear Friend, that you are a story. That’s why we should transform ourselves into books so that others can read 10% of what we want to give them.
