One of the reasons why I make pictures and run this website is the word “survival.” For example, a famous Polish painter, Zdzislaw Beksinski, told that he was painting to survive.
I think I have a similar case. I want to believe that all the photographs and texts will survive a long time after my death. In one of my previous posts, I already mentioned that one of the best ways to stay in memories of descendants is to raise a child properly. The second way to do that is to create art.
If we take a closer look at paintings from the past, we could say that “Yes, it is possible to endure in your artwork.”
When we take into consideration that artworks of such great masters as Hieronymus Bosch or Salvador Dali or novels which were written by such masters like Fyodor Dostoyevski, Thomas Mann, or Stanislaw Lem remain in people’s heritage. Thus we can wholeheartedly say that we all have the chance to survive thanks to our artistry. On the other hand, how many there were artists (whether painters, musicians, or writers) who were forgotten by the descendants. How many there are artworks which were destroyed or lost during turbulence times.
It is hard to estimate how many things connected with art are forgotten forever.
Nevertheless, I believe today we have a little bit easier. Thanks to the internet and virtual reality as a whole, everyone can become famous in many various ways. But sometimes I am also wondering if the internet which is known for us in its shape as we know today, could look similar after one hundred years. Will it survive in the look as we know it today? Will Google work with the same precision within the next one hundred or even thousands of years?
I have doubts. That is why I have doubts if my artworks will endure through the centuries. On the other hand, I cannot imagine living without creating. Thus it is only the hope which stayed with me regarding survival. I hope my photographs and texts will survive all the future turmoils, which will appear on this planet.
