Last time I had one thought regarding the places I want to visit. The fact is that I love exploring new areas.
I love to analyze places being built (e.g., construction sites). On the other hand, I also like going through old, empty buildings (e.g., ruined houses).
Regarding ruins, I know that there are a lot of urban photographers who love to explore abandoned places. We, the photographers, are not the first ones who like to do that. One of the most stunning examples of exploring urban ruins is Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Famous Italian sketcher loved to analyze the ruins of ancient Rome. Indeed, we can admire a mix of his incredible imagination in his artworks, including original architecture with a lot of old buildings and ruins. I genuinely recommend you, my Dear Friend, to study and analyze all Piranesi’s drawings and sketches. Taschen’s book can be the best way to do this.
Just as I like to walk around the ruins, old abandoned buildings (like Piranesi did), I also want to walk around construction sites and admire how new, incredible places are created in pain, stench, and dirt.
The fact is that I like to explore my neighborhood. In one of my previous posts, I have already mentioned that I often feel that builders do not wish when someone with the camera in his hand is walking near their places of work. I am not surprised. If I were a construction worker, I would undoubtedly possess a similar feeling.
Nevertheless, exploring new places, which are being built, is also an astonishing moment. If you, my Dear Friend, will ever possess a possibility to see, analyze, and photograph a new building, which is being built from the very beginning, I would recommend doing that. Indeed, it is also a documentary concept, but I believe that you will not regret it. Oh, and by the way. We do not have to travel around the world to see remarkable places. First, explore your mundane neighborhood. After this experience, the whole world undoubtedly will be yours.
