Falling asleep under the moonlight.

July 25, 2026 by Adam Mazek

Two days ago, to be more precise, on the 30th of January, 2026, (I wrote this text on the 1st of February, 2026),I was falling asleep under the moonlight.

It was a magical moment. I went to sleep alone. Why? Because my beloved Kamilka was not sleepy. When I was lying in bed, I asked myself whether I wanted to cover the windows with the curtains. After all, it was strangely light. Then, I noticed a big pale moon staring at me out of the window, behind the tree that I see from our home in Warsaw. I decided to devote a few minutes just to contemplate and watch the Earth’s satellite. While lying and contemplating the unearthly beauty, a strange thought appeared in my mind. I thought that if I die tonight, I would feel that I died peacefully, with everything I could, the best I could. Even though I knew I had hurt some people in the past, I felt a tranquility in my mind, heart, and soul.

I felt that I accomplished my mission (even if I could not explain its aim and sense), and if I die, I would rest in peace.

Then, I closed my eyes and fell into deep sleep, which lasted ten hours. How happy I was when I got up the next day, full of energy, and ready for the upcoming weekend. The truth is that when I was walking yesterday (still with an injured leg), I took over 12k steps and took over 340 photos on Warsaw’s streets. The second number is one of my best results. While walking, I recalled the feelings from the evening of the day before. I decided to write about it. Once I returned home, I noted in my email the title of this text, “Falling asleep under the moonlight,” hoping that even if I die, I somehow won’t die, but a part of me will remain in this world forever.
