This text’s title refers to one of the most magical Beatles songs, ‘Happiness Is A Warm Gun.”
It is not the first time I have changed the title of a Beatles song. Previously, it happened with the “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” (I changed it to the “While My Camera Gently Clicks”). Is it a coincidence these two songs border on one of the greatest albums I’ve ever heard, the so-called “White Album” (official name: “The Beatles”)? I do not know. Regarding my writings, it is a coincidence I decided to transform the titles of two songs from the “White Album.” I wrote hundreds of times that when I walk, contemplate mundane surroundings, and do street photography with a turned-on camera, I feel tremendous joy and gratitude. It is a moment when I live here and now without overthinking about the past and not too much worrying about the future.
When listening to Beatles songs, I feel the Fab Four was playful while composing, playing, and singing.
I have a feeling it was pure fun for them. Today (I wrote this text on the 17th of October, 2023), I have a similar feeling regarding my creative activity. For me, happiness is undoubtedly a turned-on camera, especially when I walk and take pictures on Warsaw’s streets. Was a firing, warm gun a happiness for the Beatles? I do not think so. I believe a gently sweeping guitar was bliss for John, Paul, George, and Ringo.
Undoubtedly, when I am in the creation process, I am content with my life. I think the Beatles had (and some of them, luckily, still have) a similar feeling. Creating something out of nothing is a primordial desire for the human species. Of course, it is only my belief. Perhaps for others (e.g., Stalin or Putin), killing and destruction is a way of life. Who knows, maybe for them, happiness was a warm gun.
