Today (I wrote this text on the 14th of December, 2023), I will note that I don’t believe in Lennon for the second time in my life.
I’ve written a lot of posts about John Lennon in recent years. Still, sometimes it’s certainly worth taking a critical look at one’s “idol” (is Lennon my “idol”?) and even rejecting what the idol preaches. For example, the vision of a blissful paradise without borders, private property, greed, countries, religion, sorrows, and hunger that Lennon presents in the song “Imagine” sometimes rejects me. It almost sounds like communism. But on the other hand, sometimes it’s worthwhile to do the exercise Lennon did and just imagine certain things. It certainly won’t cost us much, and maybe some perspective on certain things it will bring us. At this point, I believe in Lennon. Still, I do not treat him as a God. I treat him as a genius born and raised in the proper place and time and who did tremendous work to realize his soul in something he loved – music.
He was not a demigod who knew more than other people.
For me, Lennon is an excellent example of how one can express oneself via one of the liberal arts. It does not mean I want to be Lennon’s copy. I prefer to reject all his words and follow my creative path, even if I never receive such splendor, money, and fame as Lennon did. Indeed, all these things are unimportant to me. I merely want to focus on street photography, writing, and preparing subsequent ‘Diaries’ editions-these are collections of my personal reflections and experiences, and sets of pictures like ‘Negation of the End’ or ‘Transience’-these are visual representations of my philosophical musings on the transient nature of life. Do not follow me, my Dear Friend, like I do not follow John Lennon. I simply enjoy his works of art and appreciate everything he did for humankind.
