I wrote the text “I eat; thus, I live?” on the 20th of November, 2025. It was our second day while being in Zakopane, the capital of the Polish Tatra Mountains.
Yesterday, we arrived here at 4 p.m. We came from Kraków, where we did a small piece of sightseeing. I broke my fast yesterday by… having a shot of liquor, two hours after our arrival. Yes, I wrote that during our stay in Zakopane, I planned to totally break my routine. Did I get drunk yesterday? No, of course, I have drunk some more shots later and drank two beers. Later, I had two fatty dinners, a chocolate bar, and ice cream for dessert. While doing all these things, I told my beloved Kamilka:
I eat; thus, I live?
The answer to this question is not straightforward. We all need food (to be more precise, we need meat, eggs, vegetables, and nuts) to live. Also, we must drink water to live. It is obvious. Still, we do not need candies, sweets, chocolate, ice creams, beers, liquors, or vodka to live. Also, we do not need to eat all the time. These are facts. That’s why I don’t do it daily. In general, I am feasting only while being on vacation. Also, there are single evenings during the year (between two and three events) when I drink some beer with my colleagues from the office.
In general, I do not want to return to my lifestyle before Christmas 2020 (it was a time when I started doing intermittent fasting), when I was eating from morning until evening.
I remember that I stopped eating sweets and candies even before Christmas 2020, but adding intermittent fasting to my lifestyle boosted my confidence, the clarity of my mind, and stabilized my weight at a normal, healthy level. It is wise to fast. Also, I believe it is wise to sometimes totally break the good habit, and eat and drink whatever one wants, as I do while in Zakopane.
