Impossibility of walking.

July 6, 2026 by Adam Mazek

I remember I wrote many times on the www.adammazek.com blog that walking is one of the most underrated activities. Today (I wrote this text on the 18th of January, 2026), I must face the impossibility of walking.

When I wrote the beginning of this text, I recalled one of the most significant movie scenes I’ve ever seen. It happened in the “Midnight Cowboy” film. Rico “Ratso” Rizzo (awesome played by Dustin Hoffman) was shouting the “I’m walking here, I’m walking here” words to the taxi driver who almost did not run over him while crossing the street in New York City. The legend says it was not a planned scene, but a spontaneous one. I can imagine it was true. In general, if you want to see the movie with the walking theme (of course, it was rather a subplot of this film), I truly recommend the “Midnight Cowboy” movie.

Or, perhaps, the impossibility of walking was one of the plots of this film.

The truth is that, for me, the “Midnight Cowboy” movie is among the top three movies I’ve ever seen (others are “The Star Wars” trilogy directed between 1977 and 1983, and probably “Blade Runner” from 1982). Back to the main topic of this text, I wrote umpteenth times that I love walking. For me, it is freedom’s and life’s essence. I honestly sympathize with all the people who cannot walk. I hope to recover as soon as possible, but I know I should not force it. If the doctor said I should take a rest for the next 2-3 weeks, I should do it. I accept the impossibility of walking, because there is nothing I can do about it. I believe it will be a lesson for me. A lesson on how to cope with adversity. Today, I can name this adversity an injury.
