In its own way.

July 14, 2026 by Adam Mazek

I wrote the “In its own way” text on the 24th of January, 2026, after doing street photography.

What inspired me to write this text? It was a short conversation I had with an old man in the Ochota (Rakowiec) district. The old stranger spotted me taking photos of garbage lying in the snow. He told me:
It’s not an interesting subject for photography.
I replied:

In its own way, it is an interesting subject to photograph.

I decided to note down this short dialogue because I believe that seeking and seeing beauty in the mundane, dirty reality sets me apart from millions of other people. The truth is that I wrote for the umpteenth time that mundane reality excites and inspires me, in its own way. When talking about my photos with my beloved Kamilka, family, or friends, I used to say that the uglier the places are, the more photographically attractive they are for me. That’s a simple, yet profound truth. How many pictures did I take today? Two hundred. How many steps did I take? I took 11k steps. Considering that eight days ago I got an injury in my right calf, I believe these are great results. Did my leg hurt? It hurt me much less than it did one day earlier.

I am becoming an optimist regarding my recovery.

I think I can tell I won’t need crutches anymore. How happy I am that I can walk! Also, I am grateful for it. I think I will write something more about it in my second text, which I plan to write today. As of now, I want to simply stress that each point on this planet, in its own way, is interesting to photograph. I can easily prove it to you, my Dear Friend. If you are convinced that you are in a place where there is nothing interesting to photograph, you can always photograph yourself against the various backgrounds that surround you.
