I don’t remember when I heard so sad and simultaneously optimistic song as The Police’s “Invisible Sun.”
The song tells about war and violence. The video clip was shot in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Do stills from the video clip provided me a sense of sadness or hope? The music video without a voice would give me a hint of melancholy. Nevertheless, when we hear Sting’s voice in this song, it is the moment that I feel faith for a better tomorrow. Even if the situation is at it’s worst point, and there is no hope for a better tomorrow, I do believe that the invisible sun shines for all the people.
The stills from the music video often remind my photographs of Warsaw.
A similar thing happened while watching David Lynch’s “Eraserhead” movie. Regarding the second movie, I must admit that I did not finish watching the full video. Probably it was too earlier for me to understand such an odd film. Perhaps, if I watch it today, I will not understand this movie either. The fact is that at the beginning of the movie, there is a great movie still with windows. This picture often reminds my photographs, in the same way as The Police’s video clip did.
Did I get inspiration from the two mentioned above masterpieces to photograph my surroundings? No. The fact is that I first started to make such weird pictures, and then I saw two films mentioned above. Thus, I cannot tell that I received direct inspiration from The Police and David Lynch.
Nevertheless, the fact is that their masterpieces confirmed to me that I possess a wholly unique, visionary approach to photography, which can be comparable to the Police and Lynch’s artistic activities.
Are you insane? Did you get crazy? Do you compare your photographs to David Lynch’s movies or The Police’s video clips?
Undoubtedly you could ask me, my Dear Friend. Yes, I believe that the invisible sun also shines for me and that my artistic activities will be comparable in the future to Sting’s and Lynch’s works of art. I dream aloud. I hope that the Invisible Sun shines not only for me but also for you, my Dear Friend.
