It was an impulse. Nevertheless, I decided to add a quotation to one of the pages in the first edition of “Diaries.”
Who is the author of the quotation? Iron Maiden is an English heavy metal band formed in the United Kingdom in 1975. Why did I decide to add such a thing? In general, I try to avoid using quotes. Speaking shortly: it was a spontaneous act. What is the quotation? It sounds something like this:
When you know that your time is close at hand
Maybe then you’ll begin to understand
Life down here is just a strange illusion.
It is part of the lyrics of the “Hallowed Be Thy Name” song. When I was preparing the cover, the words of the Iron Maiden song echoed in my mind so loud that I decided to add it to the e-book. Indeed, I often think about life as a strange, impossible-to-explain illusion. Have I ever been close to death? No. I never had any troubles with illnesses or accidents. Moreover, I never wanted to commit suicide.
Nevertheless, sometimes, I feel that, while being young, death was somehow close to me because of my Brother Marcinek’s early end.
When my brother died at 13, I was nine years old. I remember that my young imagination was enormously developing at that time. Undoubtedly, the fatal occurrence left a trace on my mind, soul, heart, and vision. Now I know it is impossible that a Brother’s death could not leave a mark on the human psyche.
That is why Iron Maiden’s song correctly describes my feelings regarding life.
After such a traumatic event I experienced when I was nine years old, I started to feel that we all are an illusion. We do not know why we were born or why we all have to die. In general: human civilization has sought the purpose of life from ancient (or even prehistoric?) times till today. Will we ever find out the answers? I doubt. As usual, there are only questions remaining without answers.
