Undefined goal

June 16, 2021 by Adam Mazek 2 Comments

Each subsequent photographic walk, each following photo taken, each text written is a step forward that brings me closer to an undefined goal.

People from antiquity know that continual dropping wears away a stone. All kinds of artistic activities remind me that I must go forward, step by step, to reach the aim. But what is the purpose of my creative activity? Why do I take all these photographs? Moreover, why do I write about many issues? What is the purpose of managing the www.adammazek.com website? Why do I prepare a set of pictures, including „Negation of the End,” „Living in Poland,” or „Death”? I do not know. After replying that I have no idea why I do all mentioned-above things, I always ask myself: do we need to get to know everything? I do not think so. For example, we all do not know what the purpose of humans’ life is. The aim of our existence is, indeed, an undefined goal.

Do we have to know the purpose of our life?

Undoubtedly, we all would like to get to know it. If humanity knew the universal aim of life, our existence probably would improve somehow. Why? Because most of us would like to reach and fulfill this definite purpose. Do I hope that we will ever know the meaning of life? I am convinced that no one who ever lived on planet Earth will ever find out why one appeared in this world. The fact is that life was and will be an undefined goal. Thousands of people are being born and are dying daily. No matter how big the picture we would like to imagine and analyze regarding this situation, we will never find out why some people are being born. Others are dying simultaneously.

By considering all the things that I wrote today, is it necessary to understand all our doings (including those connected with broadly defined art.) in our life? I do not think so. I believe that the unconsciousness of the processes that rule our world provides a lot of fun into the existential journey. The lack of knowledge of the most fundamental issues does not interrupt me to enjoy life!
