Today (I wrote this text on October 16th, 2023), I was walking in sandals at 8 degrees Celsius (46.4 degrees Fahrenheit).
Was it cold for my feet? No, it wasn’t. Did people stare at me with disbelief? Of course, they did. I also wear summer clothes (including the www.adammazek.com t-shirt). Moreover, I did not wear a winter cap and gloves. I did not have to. Did I enjoy walking and doing street photography? Yes, I was. I did not care about other people’s thoughts and feelings. After all, their thoughts cannot hurt me anyhow. While writing about all these things, I wondered what my temperature threshold would be regarding walking in sandals. Will it be 7 or 0 degrees Celsius? I do not know what the future holds. Still, I want to check my abilities in this case. As I wrote, I did not get cold when walking in sandals at 8 degrees Celsius. I want to push and check my boundaries in this case.
Does this mean I want to freeze to death? Of course not. If there is a situation where it is too cold for me, I will hide in a shop, order a taxi, and return safely to my home.
That’s why exposing my body to Warsaw is one of the safest things (contrary to walking during storms) I can do for my well-being. I do not go to the high mountains or deep into the giant forest where I can easily get lost forever and freeze to death. In Warsaw, one can permanently quickly hide somewhere and call a taxi. There is no safer place to expose the body to cold than in a big city. One can always hide from the cold even if one walks in sandals in frigid temperatures. Have I ever ordered a taxi while walking in summer clothes in freezing temperatures? No, I’ve never done such a thing.
