What was first? Desire to walk or desire to photograph?
I wrote this text on the 4th of December, 2025. It was a day when I was coming back from my office job to home on foot. Of course, I was also rucking (with the rucksack weighing almost 30 kg [66 lbs]). I was not doing street photography because it was too dark for me to take pictures (I do not like walking with the tripod, standing still, and taking night pictures). Still, while walking, I asked myself what was first for me: the desire to walk or the desire to photograph. Of course, the answer was quite obvious. I first learned how to walk, so the desire to do this tremendous activity was naturally in my blood (and I believe in all other humans’ blood) from the very beginning.
Still, I know that since I discovered for myself street photography (I’ve been doing this artistic activity since October 2015), walking and taking pictures have appeared to be an integrated part of my life.
I do not see any reason not to take pictures while walking. I remember my walks with my beloved Parents not only in Brok (where I lived between 2000 and 2004 and where my Parents still live), but also in Małkinia Górna (a small town near Brok in the North-Eastern part of the Mazovia Voivodship), where we lived between 1985 (it was a year when I was born) and 2000. Undoubtedly, my parents instilled in me not only the desire to walk, but also to sport.
After all, I had many years in the past when I was regularly playing football, going to the gym, or swimming in the swimming pool.
Today, while walking, I am also rucking (walking with a heavy rucksack). That’s my choice regarding physical activity, and I hope my story encourages others to reflect on their own relationship with walking and photography, perhaps inspiring them to explore these activities in their lives.
