The title of this post is one of the first inspirations I wrote for my blog.
I wrote the “Street photography is the question, not the answer” text on the 3rd of January, 2026, and I wrote inspiration on the 27th of May, 2017. Why did I return to it after eight and a half years? It is because I did not have a special topic to write about. I decided to return to my inspirations from the past, to the initial ones. The one that street photography is the question and not the answer was the one I marked as unread in my personal mail. It means I did not use this thought, and it was waiting to develop this insight. Today, the moment to develop my thoughts from the past has arrived. After all, taking pictures on Warsaw’s streets for over ten years, perhaps taught me something, didn’t it?
Undoubtedly, it taught me that doing street photography won’t solve all my problems.
Indeed, it helped me a lot in various areas of my life, but it did not make me Superman. Also, while walking and taking pictures, I usually contemplate. It is a moment when I ask myself many questions and often try to answer them. The only conclusion is that I will never know the answers to many questions. I will be walking and doing street photography as long as my health lets me do it, but I know will always be a human, without the ability to understand and comprehend everything that is happening not only on our planet, but also in the broadly defined Universe.
We all have limitations in understanding one of the most spectacular phenomena to occur since the Big Bang: the essence of what life is. We will never understand what life really is. That’s why I prefer to simply enjoy the current moment, without analyzing the past and overthinking the future. Street photography will remain the question, without providing answers, until the end of human civilization.
