The letter from fear.

April 24, 2026 by Adam Mazek

Post “The Letter From Fear” is inspired by the “Mindful Photographer” book by Sophie Howarth, published by Thames & Hudson.

I decided to write the letter from fear, based on the advice provided in the book mentioned above. When I read this advice, I realized it can be a tough and challenging thing to do. Tomorrow, I will reply to my fear (again, per the book’s recommendation). I want both letters to be written without auto-censorship, as this letter would be placed in a drawer for eternity. Here we go:

Dear Adam,

I am your fear. This is what I want to tell you. I love playing with you. I love to cheat you and horrify you. Undoubtedly, as you recall, I have been a part of your mind since your early childhood. Even if you do not like me, no matter what you do, I will be with you until your final days. After all, I would not write this letter if you were already dead. I noticed that since you started doing intermittent fasting, exposing your body to cold, and rucking, I do not have as much contact with you and control over you as I would like.

I remember the good old days when you were frightened of war, hunger, and death.

You were scared of many things. Sometimes I thought you were even afraid of strangers walking on the streets. Now, even if I direct you to read mainstream news about the war in Ukraine and the potential war in Poland, I feel you are not scared that much. After all, if the Russians attack Poland, you will go to the army. Brave Boy! You want to be a tough guy. You are not afraid of death, and you are ready to devote your life to the Polish society.

Luckily, I know some things can mentally break you.

They are not directly connected to you, but to your loved ones. You are still afraid of losing your beloved Kamilka, Parents, family, and friends. You know you cannot prepare for their death. That’s why I am here. I will remind you of it until your final days. I’ll be here no matter how many kilograms you add to your rucksack. You won’t scare me, Adam. It is I whom you should be frightened of!
Your Fear
