We’re all human

Mundial, which took place in June 2018 in Russia, inspired me to write this post. I was watching this sports event on TV. Some happenings proved to me once again in my life that we’re all human.

Mundial is one of the biggest sports tournaments all over the world. Poland, with one of the best strikers in the world, named Robert Lewandowski, also took part in the competition. Unfortunately, my team had finished it as the last team in our group. Did this fact make me aware that we’re all human? Of course, yes. Nevertheless, today I will focus on something different. What inspired me to write this post is the fact of how football players often celebrate their goals.

There are many examples, not only on the last Mundial, of how exhausted players (e.g., after scoring a goal in the final minutes of the game) are “wasting” their precious energy to show their enjoyment.

I noticed that often practically all the exhausted players, thanks to the adrenaline, which makes their blood burn after scoring goals, give tons of their energy to show their excitement. But, we should remember that after shooting this kind of purpose, they still have to play, and they still have to be prepared for subsequent minutes of tiring play! So how come it is possible that after scoring, they do not rest for seconds to get ready for the ending?

I believe that adrenaline is half of an answer.

The second part of the answer is strictly connected with our emotions. They are an inevitable part of our lives. And thank God! Emotions force football players to make such “mistakes” like ineffectively wasting energy due to celebrations. As we can see, we often consciously behave “irrationally.” If players acted rationally, they would not have celebrated the goal.
Fyodor Dostoevsky noticed a similar phenomenon. He beautifully described it in his “Notes from the underground.” In his novel, a famous Russian writer stated that unless people are perfect and behave irrationally, it is proof that they are still humans.
In conclusion, I want to stress that it is ok when we make mistakes or sometimes behave irrationally. We’re all human, and perfection does not suit our species. What is more, in my opinion, perfection is absent in this world.
